Feel Good Management in Perfection

Nowadays, it is becoming increasingly important that employees feel good at work. Someone who can contribute to this is the so-called Feel Good Manager. This position in the company ensures that everyone feels good and is satisfied. This is a task that brings challenges with it.

A 2020 survey by Gallup revealed shocking figures. According to the survey, only 17 percent of all employees are happy in their job and feel an emotional connection to their employer. In contrast, a full 83 percent of employees feel no connection at all with their employer or the company. And that has far-reaching consequences. As dissatisfaction grows, so does the chance of termination. This is not only a big problem in terms of time, it also costs a lot of money. That’s why it’s becoming increasingly important today to fill a new position within the company: the Feel Good Manager. This means nothing other than that there must be someone who has to ensure that the employees feel satisfied at their workplace. This includes that they feel accepted, valued, challenged and accepted by their colleagues and employers.

A Feel Good Manager has many tasks

So it’s no wonder that a variety of interventions can be expected from the Feel Good Manager, depending on how large the company is. In addition to conflict management in the event of problems and disputes between employees, his new tasks also include in-depth team-building measures. These can be joint excursions with an event character, such as building a boat to cross a river. It can also simply be a cozy breakfast round at regular intervals, where colleagues can exchange ideas and grow closer together. Furthermore, it is important to introduce new employees well to the team and their new work tasks. In addition, workshops and training courses are essential in many branches in order to stay up-to-date and to work through new work content together.

How Feel Good Managers Create a Work-Life Balance

Management consultants often talk about a work-life balance, and in its broadest terms, that’s exactly what it’s all about. Colleagues should grow together and form a close friendly structure outside the family. At the same time, employees also need regulated working time models that allow them to have a fulfilling private life alongside work. This can only be achieved with sufficient breaks and days off. This allows them to recharge their batteries so that they don’t become exhausted at some point. New work models in the home office are an ideal model here, because they allow both: to work efficiently at home and at the same time to be there for the family. Proper planning is just as much a part of this as a certain amount of trust and freedom. Goals need to be explored together and agreed upon in virtual meetings.

Expanding competencies through Feel Good Manager training

In order to achieve all this and so much more, and to ensure that employees enjoy their work and therefore have fewer sick days and strong tendencies to quit, it is important to learn the necessary skills to become a Feel Good Manager. Appropriate workshops and trainings with certification help to pursue a new career in a field that has an urgent need. In addition to classic management skills, professional know-how (event management, HR, health issues, etc.) and conflict resolution skills (mediation) are also required. Furthermore, new Feel Good Managers should bring social skills as well as ethics and appreciation towards colleagues and use them creatively. Every employee is different, every team brings its own unique challenges, and that is one of the reasons why it is essential to have individual solutions and offers at the ready.

While the job of the Feel Good Manager in large companies certainly includes a separate position, in small companies it is often the case that this is only one of the tasks to be performed for the manager in addition to his “normal” work. Nevertheless, it is no less relevant to the happiness of an entire business.
